Springboard Mile Closes Remington’s 2021 Season
- Updated: December 17, 2021

Asmussen sends out two in the $400,000 Springboard Mile at Remington
It’s time for the 2021 Remington Park Springboard Mile. The headliner event for 2-year-olds going 1 mile for a purse of $400,000 also offers qualifying points to the 2022 Kentucky Derby in a 10-4-2-1 distribution to the top four finishers.
A field of nine has been drawn to go to the post for the Springboard Mile, one of two final Kentucky Derby prep races for the month of December.
Steve Asmussen currently leads all trainers with 39 wins going into the final racing card for the 2021 season and will saddle two contenders in the Springboard Mile.
Tony Holmes and Winchell Thoroughbreds Concept (5-1) will break from post position 1. The chestnut colt by Gun Runner will be making his third start of the season at Remington following a disappointing fourth place finish in the Clever Trevor as the favorite in his last start. Carlos Montalvo will be aboard for the first time and expect him to set the early fractions in his first two-turn try.
The other Asmussen entry for L and N Racing LLC and Winchell Thoroughbreds is Classic Moment (4-1). He’ll break from post position 5 in his first start since breaking his maiden in a 6 1/2 furlong MSW at Churchill last month. Stewart Elliott, currently second in the jockey standings with 59 wins, will get the leg up.
