In the DRF feature Race of the Day at Oaklawn, a field of nine older fillies and mares will go to post in the $150,000 American Beauty stakes at 6 furlongs for a purse of $150,000.
Oaklawn Park – Race 8
Here’s the field from the rail out with morning line odds, jockey, trainer, and comments.
- Li’l Tootsie (5-2), G Franco, Tom Amoss – Winner of 5 of 11 and on a two race win streak for strong connections. Finished 3rd in a G2 three back. Three other graded stakes tries proved too much to handle. Faces non-graded stakes company today for the first time.
- Joy’s Rocket (5-1), T Pereira, Steve Asmussen – Well beaten favorite in last start vs OC80K here, making her 0 for 2 in Hot Springs. But she needed that race and now returns to overnight stakes company where she’s a three-time winner. Santana opts for her stablemate.
- Ain’t No Elmers (12-1), R Vazquez, Bret Calhoun – 0 for 3 at Oaklawn, she was the beaten favorite vs. Li’l Tootsie two back at Churchill. Goes turf to dirt for her second start in three weeks and expect a pace setting effort.
- Perfect Happiness (8-1), M Garcia, Brad Cox – Hard trying 5 year old mare but mostly the bridesmaid. She owns a pair of victories here, most recently a career high Beyer 92 win two back. Returned to finish second last time out here when stepping up from previous. And takes bigger step up this time.
- Abrogate (7-2), R Santana, Steve Asmussen – Second last time to Li’l Tootsie and Santana sticks with her for a return to this level. 2 of 4 lifetime wins came on an off track. Won the Purple Martin here last year on a fast track at this distance.
- Sarah Harper (5-1), J Court, Ron Moquett – Heavy favorite in 4 of 5 lifetime starts. And winner of 3 of 5 including a front-running victory here in her most recent outing. Expect her to be in front at the first call in a very competitive race.
- Candura (12-1), C Torres, Jerry Hollendorfer – She’s a different horse at Oaklawn. Her numbers improve dramatically. She’ll be a price, but Hollendorfer is 0 for 16 with stakes horses here. Hard to pull the trigger but something tells me she’s going to come running.
- Wildwood’s Beauty (5-1), F Arrieta, Scott Becker – Won her last start here over several she’ll face again.
- Miss Mosaic (10-1), D Cabrera, Ben Colebrook – Hard to see the oddsmaker has her at 10-1 in here. She’s NW3L eligible and has been the place horse in 8 of her 18 lifetime starts. Competitive spirit is making her first start at Oaklawn in a tough spot. Note she was 7 clear of the show horse in a Parx stakes last time out. Could turn out that she loves it here. But…
Post time for DRF’s Race of the Day is scheduled for 4:46 PM ET and will go as race 8 on the 9 race card for Saturday, January 22, 2022 at Aqueduct.
