Aqueduct – Race 6

Here’s the field from the rail out with morning line odds, jockey, trainer, and comments.

  1. Golani Bridge (5-1), D Davis, Jeff Englehart – Last out winner returns from a 60 day layoff. He’s 0 for 3 here but makes his first start for a tag against NY breds. Davis aboard for the win that cleared him through his NW3L conditions at Belmont 4 back.
  2. P J Advantage (12-1), J Vargas, Paul Barrow – 0 for 6 in the past two years. Dropping to a level not seen in his past 10 running lines. Owns a win here earned prior to 2019. Makes first start since November.
  3. Dream Bigger (6-1), M Franco, Mertkan Kantarmaci – Franco replaces McCarthy who was aboard for a win last time out here. Steps back up to twice the price. Horse for course but well beaten two back under same conditions.
  4. Steam Engine (3-1), K Carmouche, Rob Atras – Swapped hands in his last two starts when claimed for $45K each time for OCN2X. Makes first start since December for solid connections. Big drop from the claim signals problems with horse who was 2nd at Belmont last summer at this level and distance. Caution.
  5. Binkster (20-1), A Morrison, Marvin Richards – Returns first time off the claim for a trainer who is 67% with this move. Takes a double step up in class. Jockey is 1 for 1 for trainer. Otherwise, hard to like.
  6. Dark Money (4-1), J Gomez, Rudy Rodriguez – Claimed from his last when beaten as the heavy favorite by Dream Bigger who returns. But steps back up to level where previously unsuccessful. Trainer 25% with 1st after the claim.
  7. Sicilia Mike (15-1), T McCarthy, Wayne Potts – Owns 6 wins from 61 lifetime starts. More glaringly, he has been runner up 19 times and the show horse in 11 races. One of his 6 wins was here at this level and distance almost a year ago. McCarthy lands on horse with highest speed figure and best dirt speed figure of any in here – but he doesn’t like to win.
  8. Gandy Dancing (30-1), C Ramos, John Pregman – NW4L eligible for 0 for 14 trainer who has sent out 54 horses in sprints with 0% success. Horse crossed the line first here sometime prior to August 2020, when trained by another.
  9. Writer’s Regret (12-1), A Worrie, Ralph D’Allessandro – Last out winner of a NW3L allowance at Finger Lakes. Has a win over the track sometime prior to March 2021. Raced at this level unsuccessfully in the past.
  10. Missalpha (9-2), E Cancel, Chris Englehart – Made his first race at Aqueduct a winning one last time out. Returns at twice the price for trainer who is high percentage in all stats but upward class moves. Looking to make this his third consecutive trip to the winner’s circle.
  11. Manifest Destiny (20-1), H Harkie, William Younghans – At 8, he’s tied for seniority with Sicilia Mike. Won his two-back start at this level and trip at Belmont. Hard to win from out here when you don’t have speed.

Post time for DRF’s Race of the Day is scheduled for 3:20 PM ET and will go as race 6 on the 8 race card for Friday, January 21, 2022 at Aqueduct.
