Race of the Day: Long Island Handicap at Aqueduct
- Updated: November 7, 2015
Today’s race of the day is the G3 $200,000 Long Island Handicap going 1 1/ 2 miles on the turf at Aqueduct.
The race is for fillies and mares 3 years old and up.
Mei Ling who was entered for the main track only is scratched leaving a field of 10 to go the 1 1/2 mile distance of the Long Island Handicap.
On paper the field is wide open with several runners vying for early favoritism including three who will run for trainer Chad Brown and three who will run for Christophe Clement.
3 Chad Brown Runners
Brown’s runners include Goldy Espony, Rosalind and Danza Cavallo who is listed as the morning line favorite at 3 to 1.
Danza Cavallo was second in this race last year as the favorite in her first race stateside and has been consistent in her most recent starts including a second place finish last time out in the G1 Flower Bowl at Belmont. That race was won by her stablemate Stephanie’s Kitten who returned to win the Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Turf at Keeneland.
Note: Danza Cavallo’s two most recent attempts on a firm turf course resulted in a 10th and an 8th place finish.
3 Christophe Clement Runners
Clement’s runners include the longshot Courtesan at 20 to 1, the French bred Crisolles and Walk Close who will open at 8 to 1.
