Saratoga Springs, NY – Saratoga opens its 2025 summer meet on Thursday, July 10, with an exciting 10-race card featuring two prestigious stakes races, setting the stage for 40 days of world-class thoroughbred racing. Following the vibrant July 4th Racing Festival, the summer meet kicks off with a bang, drawing fans, industry professionals, and top horses to the “Summer Place to Be.”
Opening Day Stakes Races: De La Rose and Coronation Cup
The Opening Day card is headlined by two stakes races, showcasing elite talent on both turf and dirt. The Listed De La Rose Stakes, a one-mile turf race for older fillies and mares, carries a $135,000 purse and serves as the feature race of the day. This restricted stakes event has attracted a competitive field of seasoned runners. Weigh the Risks, trained by Chad Brown is listed as the 6-5 morning line favorite and will break from post position nine in the field of ten. Heredia, trained by H. Graham Motion is listed as the second choice at 3-1 and will break from post position three. The second stakes race, the Grade 3 Coronation Cup, is a 5 ½-furlong turf sprint for three-year-old fillies, with a purse of $150,000. Both races highlight Saratoga’s reputation for high-quality turf racing, a hallmark of the summer meet, with BRIS Late Pace Ratings often favoring closers in these turf events. The card offers a mix of maidens, allowances, and claiming races alongside the two stakes, catering to a wide range of handicapping interests. Saratoga’s unique track configuration, including the 1 1/8-mile main dirt track, the mile-long Mellon Turf Course, and the 7-furlong inner turf course, ensures diverse racing action.
