July 4th Racing Festival: A Star-Studded Kickoff

The July 4th Racing Festival, traditionally held at Belmont Park, will light up Saratoga Race Course with four days of high-stakes racing and festive entertainment. Running from Thursday, July 3, to Sunday, July 6, the festival will feature 10 stakes races, offering fans a thrilling prelude to the summer meet. Highlights include:

  • July 3: The festival opens with the $150,000 Wild Applause for sophomore fillies on turf and the $175,000 Victory Ride (G3) for sprinting fillies. Expect top trainers like Chad Brown and Todd Pletcher to field promising contenders, with jockeys such as Irad Ortiz Jr. and Flavien Prat likely to ride.
  • July 4: A stacked card headlined by the $750,000 Belmont Derby Invitational (G1T) for sophomores on turf, featuring Test Score, trained by Chad Brown, aiming for a Grade 1 victory. The $400,000 Suburban (G2) will see Locked, owned by Eclipse Thoroughbred Partners and Walmac Farm, seeking redemption under trainer Todd Pletcher and jockey Manny Franco. Additional stakes include the $150,000 Harvey Pack and $150,000 Schuylerville for juvenile fillies.
  • July 5: The $500,000 Belmont Oaks Invitational (G1T) showcases top sophomore fillies on turf, with Brown and Pletcher likely to dominate entries. Jockeys like Junior Alvarado and Joel Rosario are expected to compete for top honors.
