Breeders’ Cup Classic Odds

Breeders’ Cup 2015 Classic odds have been revised with the scratch of Beholder.
When trainer Richard Mandella announced that two-time Eclipse Award and twice Breeders’ Cup winner Beholder would not run in the Breeders’ Cup Classic, the connections of Triple Crown winner American Pharoah were able to release the deep breath they held in anticipation of what will be American Pharoah’s final race.
Beholder, the 5-year-old daughter of Henny Hughes, was on track to quite possibly upset the Triple Crown winner to become the first and only other mare to win the Breeders’ Cup Classic since Zenyatta won the 2009 Breeders’ Cup Classic to take home the $5 million grand prize.
After arriving at Churchill Downs from her home base at Santa Anita, Beholder had developed a fever which, according to Mandella, indicated there was something wrong but they watched and waited to make a decision.
After her five-furlong breeze on Monday she was scoped and a small amount of blood was detected prompting the decision to scratch.
