Bio
Shaman Ghost broke his maiden at Gulfstream in a MSW at 1 1/16 miles to start a four race win streak that included victories in the G3 Marine Stakes at Woodbine and the Queen’s Plate before a tough loss by a neck to Breaking Lucky as the heavy favorite in the Prince of Wales at Fort Erie on July 5, 2015.
Disappointed by his loss, he was given a lengthy break and returned to the races at Belmont Park in an allowance optional claiming race for $80K where he finished third but the race was a warm-up for what would be his next stakes race try in the G2 Brooklyn Handicap at Belmont.
Under Joel Rosario in the Brooklyn, Shaman Ghost notched his first G2 win in impressive fashion winning the mile and one half race by 4 1/2 lengths in his second race back after a layoff.
He returned a month later on July 9, 2016 in the G2 Suburban but was soundly defeated by the likes of Effinex and Samraat.
Since then he’s had two races. On September 3 he recorded his first G1 win in the Woodward at Saratoga under recent Eclipse award winning jockey Javier Castellano who returned aboard the ‘Ghost’ to finish third in the G1 Clark Handicap at Churchill in his most recent start.
Note that Shaman Ghost, a 5 year-old Canadian bred son of Ghostzapper by the Gilded Time mare Getback Time, has started 13 times and was treated with Lasix for the first time in the winning Woodward run and again in the Clark.
He is scheduled to make his next appearance in the inaugural running of the G1 Pegasus World Cup at Gulfstream Park on January 28, 2017, but under the rules of the Pegasus Cup the use of Lasix is prohibited.
