Free Mr. Prospector (2018) Past Performances
(Free past performances for Saturday, December 22, 2018)
The 7 furlong Mr. Prospector, for 3 YR Olds and UP, touts some talented runners in the field of eleven, several with speed, and a couple of sophomores still trying to work their way through conditions.
K Choice, one of two to go that is trained by Ben Colebrook, got a late start to the races when fourth on debut at Ellis Park this past Summer. The three-year-old son of Flatter, out of the War Front mare Object, returned to win at second asking in October at Keeneland in a MSW going 6 1/2 furlongs. In his last start at Mountaineer he was no match in a $250,000 stakes against his own age class over the slop. K Choice will be ridden by Luis Saez who’s riding at a 20% win clip. Alex Jimenez, aboard for his last two starts, lands on the favorite.
Trainer Anthony Quartarolo will send out two in the G3 $100,000 Mr. Prospector Stakes on Saturday at Gulfstream Park.
Ten-time winner Storm Advisory will be making his third start for Quartarolo, and first at Gulfstream Park. He was claimed three back from a winning effort at Churchill in an optional claiming race for non-winners of three races other than maiden, claiming or starter. He was a winner two back for his new connections in a non-conditional allowance at Thistle Downs in Ohio before beating one horse home in a most ambitious try at Churchill in the G1 Clark.
Looking for his third win in a row and sixth from his last seventh will be the 2-1 favorite Uno Mas Modelo. The other Looch Stables runner for Quartarolo, he was on a three-race-win-streak before trying the G1 Jockey Club Gold Cup at Belmont in September where he ran to his odds of $40-1. Back down to earth, he won his last two including the six furlong Bet On Sunshine dash earning a career best 102 Beyer over the slop at Churchill. And a restricted race on Claiming Crown Day to open the month of December, going today’s distance at Gulfstream. He’ll need help from the front-runners to win.
The sun will be shining in South Florida for the Mr. Prospector so weather won’t be a factor in the outcome. And with several runners having back-class, I wouldn’t be surprised if someone springs the upset in here.
