To his credit, he hit the gate at the break and couldn’t match strides with eventual winner Mihos when it counted. He’ll get another chance to earn the respect of that one but others look better. | |||

Has back-to-back wins to start career as he attempts to make his case for the first time on the Derby trail. Son of Gemologist will have to step it up and should love what projects to be an off-track as the forecast calls for 60% chance of rain in Hallendale Beach on Saturday. | |||

| Trainer is 0 for 20 at the meet so far including 0 for 4 in stakes races for the year. Top jock Ortiz Jr. replaces Castellano who opts for Federal Case. Those two things pop-out immediately from the past performances. Son of 2013 Florida Derby and Kentucky Derby winner Orb, he was the beaten favorite LTO in the Springboard Mile at Remington off an impressive maiden score at Belmont two back. The two “pop-outs” previously mentioned makes it hard to see him as the winner. | |||

| One of two for Romans who’s still seeking his first real Kentucky Derby contender but this guy does not appear to be him. Horses that break their maiden at Ellis, like him, are almost a guaranteed toss for The Free PPs handicappers. Has several under his belt at the distance including a two-back try in the KYJC in which he earned a 5 Beyer. His form shows off-the-pace and press-the-pace efforts, his best efforts being when he presses the pace but those were in lesser company. A pair of blinkers would probably serve him well but there’s no indication of an equipment change for this one. | |||

| Favorite in his last three finally breaking through maiden ranks with his lowest Beyer in his last start for McPeek. Deep closing style will have him far back early with plenty to do late but plenty of speed in front of him. | Two-time winner since adding lasix to get maiden score sprinting at the Big A. Won the Mucho Macho Man here with rider who lands on the even money favorite for this one. Velazquez will get the leg up for Jerkins for the added distance and a chance to spring the upset with his stalking style and would be an easy choice if not for the presence of three-time winner Maximus Mischief. | |||

| Took them wire-to-wire in last start here at today’s distance with a 76 Beyer. Chance to carry his speed right back against tougher speedy types will be a tough nut to crack for this other Roman’s runner. A winning race over the track at the distance is a plus but he’ll have to be a freak to fend off the herd in the end. | |||

| Hard to find fault with undefeated son of Into Mischief who has raced uncontested to the wire in all three of his victories. Won the G2 Remsen last time out at Aqueduct to stamp his hooves in the mud of the Derby trail as a contender. Cuts back in distance and gets Ortiz who jumped off the would be favorite Mihos. Trainer Reid has sent three to the GP track this meet to no avail. At the time of this writing there’s a 30% chance of rain by the time they hit the post and could affect his performance either way. Sitting on a bullet and with the best Beyer’s he’s going to make them all run if they want the money and the points. | |||

| Again, “amazing what people do for money.”On paper this son of Curlin has been competitive. He’s won three of eight – two sprinting 5F on turf at the GPW meet which should be viewed with a blade of grass. His other win was a sloppy 6F score at Tampa sandwiched in between two trouncings by the top two in here. He’s got lots of speed to affect the pace but his trainer and jockey have dismal numbers to win this race. | |||
