2014 Breeders’ Cup Distaff

2014 Breeders’ Cup Distaff – Friday October 31, 2014 is for older female runners going 1 and 1/8 miles on dirt and is the classic showdown for champion fillies and mares. Previous winners of this race include Zenyatta, Life is Sweet and two-time winner Royal Delta.

There are 12 horses pre-entered for the 2014 edition of the Distaff including four Challenge race winners Close Hatches, Don’t Tell Sophia, Iotapa, and Peruvian bred Valiant Emilia trained by Gary Mandela.

The 1 1/8 mile race is for 3-year-olds and up fillies and mares for a purse of $2 million and is the “feature race” for female runners each year.

Other notable entries include Untapable trained by Steve Asmussen and Stanwyck for local trainer John Shirreffs.
