Gettysburg Joins Belmont Stakes Field, Updated Odds
Three new runners have been added to the mix of probable starters for the 148th running of the G1 Belmont Stakes and while there won’t be any Triple Crown champion this year or a rematch between the Kentucky Derby and Preakness winners Nyquist and Exaggerator, respectively, the Belmont will have several new comers seeking to win the 1 1/2 miles race.
Forever D’Oro, a lightly raced 3 YO son of Megdalia d’Oro who only recently broke his maiden in the third start of his career for owner Charles Fipke and trainer Dallas Stewart. In that race he stumbled at the start and finished well to win by a nose as the favorite in the 1 1/16th mile race. It should be noted that his grandsire on the dam side is Lemon Drop Kid won the ’99 running of the Belmont at 30 to 1 so there’s some history to go with the mystery of running this young guy in the Belmont. A look at his past performances indicates that he’ll be another who’ll need to make the one run to win the Belmont.
Seeking the Soul is another owned and trained by Fipke and Stewart and has only three starts. The son of Perfect Soul (IRE) out of the Seeking the Gold mare Seeking the Title won a 1 mile maiden race by a neck at Churchill in his last start and showed tactical speed unlike his stablemate.
Gettysburg, winner of only 1 race in seven career starts, is expected to be part of the field when post positions are drawn for the $1.5 million test of stamina known as the Belmont Stakes.
You can get the updated Brisnet early past performances for the Belmont Stakes here but they do not include running lines for Gettysburg as they came out before it was announced that he would run.
The field for the Belmont Stakes will be drawn on Wednesday and I’ll be posting Wiz Capper’s complete analysis and selections along with the past performances as they come out.
