New York, NY – December 19, 2025 – The New York Racing Association (NYRA) has officially released its highly anticipated 2026 thoroughbred racing schedule, marking a pivotal transition year for New York racing. With the historic Aqueduct Racetrack set to host its final live racing day on June 28, 2026, the calendar bridges the ongoing Belmont Park reconstruction while delivering 196 total live race days across Aqueduct, Saratoga Race Course, and the newly reimagined Belmont Park.

This multi-year agreement between NYRA, the New York Thoroughbred Horsemen’s Association (NYTHA), and the New York Thoroughbred Breeders (NYTB) ensures stability and growth, including accelerated purse increases for New York-bred races starting in September 2026 to coincide with Belmont’s grand reopening.

Key highlights of the 2026 NYRA circuit include:

  • Aqueduct Winter Meet (January 1 – March 30): 45 live race days, primarily Thursday through Sunday.
  • Aqueduct Spring Meet (April 2 – April 26): 15 live race days, featuring key stakes like the Wood Memorial.
  • Belmont at the Big A Spring/Summer Meet (April 30 – June 28): 33 live race days at Aqueduct, concluding New York’s long-standing era at the “Big A.”
  • Saratoga Summer Meet (July 3 – September 7): An expanded 46-day core meet plus the five-day Belmont Stakes Racing Festival (June 3-7), totaling 51 days of world-class action at the Spa. The 158th Belmont Stakes, a $2 million Grade 1 event, will be held at Saratoga for the final time on June 6.
  • Belmont Park Fall Meet (Tentative: September 18 – December 6): 46 live race days, ushering in a new era with a modern grandstand, paddock, and innovative four-surface configuration—including a one-mile Tapeta track for all-weather racing and training.

2027 Breeders’ Cup Returns To Belmont

Looking ahead to 2027, the schedule expands to 203 race days, with the Belmont Stakes returning to Long Island and Saratoga reverting to its traditional 40-day meet. The redeveloped Belmont will also host the Breeders’ Cup World Championships on October 29-30, 2027—the first time since 2005.

NYRA’s announcement emphasizes enhanced opportunities for participants, with significant purse boosts for New York-breds accelerating to support the transition.
