Chris Daughtry Rocks Belmont Stakes 2016 Racing Festival
Horse racing and live music seem an odd couple but the two have been performing side by side at racetracks across America for the past decade or so.
I remember the first time I encountered the two one summer afternoon as I exited Sam Houston Race Park while still living in Houston. As I was walking out after a day of betting on simulcast races, there was a throng of people waiting to pay admission to the concert who, had they arrived at the track while SHRP’s live races were still being run, could have paid the $2 or $3 general admission to the track and saved themselves a few bucks on the concert.
Of course, as odd as I thought the marriage of the two was at the time, I realized that the marketing strategy was to attract new, younger fans to become interested in the game by providing a place to see and be seen while enjoying world-class entertainment by true champions on two and four legs.
And that strategy continues this Saturday when NYRA teams up with Chris Daughtry on Belmont day.
Horse Racing Rocks with Chris Daughtry Live at the Belmont Stakes
This story first broke back in February when NYRA released the news that the multi-platinum, Grammy-nominated Daughtry would perform before the running of the 148th Belmont Stakes on Saturday, June 11, 2016, and then continue to rock the rafters at the historic track in upstate New York with a special, post-race concert.
Horse Racing Rocks Around the World
Horse racing and music is not limited to the U.S. as tracks across the UK combine live music with equine entertainment for fans of legal age.
