The Pizza Man Delivers in the Million

Hometown hero, The Pizza Man, delivers at 5 to 1 in the 33rd running of the G1 Arlington Million on Saturday.

The Pizza Man, an Illinois bred 6YO son of English Channel out of the Lear Fan mare I Can Fan Fan, gave the capacity crowd who packed the infield something to cheer about as track announcer John G. Dooley called The Pizza Man the winner at the wire over 3 to 1 co-favorite Big Blue Kitten who finished 3/4 of a length ahead of stablemate Shining Copper who led for most of the 1 1/4M race through fractions of :46.75 and 1:10.84 for six furlongs. Final time for the distance was 2:02.20

The Pizza Man earned a 103 Beyer speed figure in the Million on a day when the track was hard to gauge on the grass after an early rain left the track in “yeilding” condition with the rail set at 62 ft.

Ridden by Florent Geroux and trained by local horseman Roger Brueggemann for The Midwest Thoroughbreds stable, The Pizza Man scored his 15th victory in 23 starts.
Prior to Saturday’s performance The Pizza Man was win less vs. G1 company but had two victories in 2015. He adds $600,000 to his lifetime earnings for a total of a little more than $1.5 million.

The Pizza Man paid $13.80 to his backers. The winning exacta combination of The Pizza Man with Big Blue Kitten returned $60.40 for each $2 ticket.
