Eight go postward for the G1 Ballerina Stakes
Eight runners will head into the starting gate for the G1 Ballerina Stakes at Saratoga on Saturday.
The Ballerina is one of 7 graded stakes races on the undercard for the G1 Travers where a sold out crowd will commence to watch American Pharoah continue his current winning form.
The morning line favorite is La Verdad, a 5 year old mare trained by Linda Rice for Lady Sheila Stable. La Verdad has won five of her last six races but is winless in two starts at the 7 furlong Ballerina distance.
Second choice at 3-1 is the Todd Pletcher trainee Dame Dorothy, a four year old Bernardini filly who has 4 wins in as many starts at the distance. This will be her first start over the Saratoga surface.
Rounding out the field is Merry Meadow, third choice in the morning line, with Joel Rosario up for Mark Hennig. She’s a 5 year old Henny Hughes mare who’s been lightly raced in 2015. Her last start was a winning one in the G2 Princess Rooney at Gulfstream. Before that she was badly beaten in the G2 Inside Information as the heavy favorite. She gets a new rider in Joel Rosario on Saturday.
The Ballerina looks to be wide open and ready for the taking by any of the eight runners.
