The Big Beast favorite in Forego Stakes on Saturday

The Big Beast opens a 1/2 point favorite over Private Zone in Saturday’s 7 furlong Forego Stakes at Saratoga. The Big Beast was beaten in nose in the G1 Vanderbilt in his last start off a 4 month layoff. The past performances running line includes a note that the rider lost his whip in the Vanderbilt which could have been the difference at the wire. John Velazquez gets the call again.

This will be the first start at Saratoga for Private Zone, the speedy son of Macho Uno who won the 7 furlong G3 Belmont Sprint in his last start. Private Zone is sitting on 4 bullet works since his last start and will set the pace on Saturday. Prior to his win in the Belmont Sprint he finished fourth behind Honor Code in the G1 Metropolitan Mile and will be tough if he takes to the track.

If you’re looking for an angle, which you should be, then Tamarkuz appears to be the dark horse. He’s a 5YO son of Speightstown who runs in the colors of Shadwell Stable and is trained by Kiaran McLauglin. He finished fourth in the Met Mile behind Honor Code, Tonalist and Private Zone in his first race in the states and gets Lasix for the second time. He’ll shorten up for the Forego and can see him having an impact on the outcome at 5 to 1.
