Feature Race of the Day: Santa Anita’s Autumn Miss

Sunday’s feature is the G3 Autumn Miss on closing day of the 2017 Fall meet at Santa Anita.

The race is for three-year-old fillies going 1 mile on the turf for a purse of $100,000, and will be led by the lukewarm favorite Lull who’ll be starting for the third time on the West Coast for trainer Christophe Clement and Claiborne Farm.

She was tiring fourth in last year’s Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf here at Santa Anita, after setting all the pace as a 20 to 1 long shot. And was an improving second in the G2 San Clemente Handicap at Del Mar this past summer.

Lull, a three-year-old filly by War Front out of the Tiznow mare Quiet Now, will lead the field of fourteen sophomore fillies to the starting gate for the final featured event at Santa Anita before the action moves to Del Mar on Wednesday to start the week of the 2017 Breeders’ Cup World Championships on Friday and Saturday.

Wiz Capper’s “Feature Factor” Highlights Weekend of America’s Best Racing

Weekend racing has always been the most exciting time to be at the track because the cards are full of the best that the backside has to offer in high-caliber, top quality horses that bring out the largest crowds and offers handicappers the best opportunity to make a score.

In today’s Autumn Miss, there are plenty of reasons to think Lull can be beat including the fact that two or her three wins were at Kentucky Downs where they run only on grass and horses stabled there don’t usually ship out to face tougher company. While those who have been facing tougher do ship in to pick up a check.

There will be plenty of pace up front in the Autumn Miss and thirteen other trainers looking to get a graded victory in what appears to be a wide-open spot on the final card at Santa Anita before the Breeders’ Cup.
