Plenty to like about Sweet Lies
- Updated: January 6, 2022

A field of nine 3-year-old maidens will go 1 mile in a $70,000 special weight race for New York bred fillies seeking the lion’s share of a $70,000 purse and the winner of the DRF feature Race of the Day at Aqueduct.
With many of the big name jockeys riding south for the winter, the crop of remaining riders includes many up and coming names like Vargas, Hernandez, Cancel, and Morrison, who will each get a leg up on one of the horses in today’s race of the day.
But still among the remaining jocks to weather what can be a harsh winter at Aqueduct are seasoned riders Carmouche, Franco, McCarthy, Lezcano, and longtime journeyman Mike Luzzi who at the age of 52 continues to grind out an occasional winning ride.
Sweet Lies in good hands
Sweet Lies, the morning line favorite at 3-1, will be ridden by Jorge Vargas, Jr who has 5 wins from 30 mounts at the current Aqueduct meet.
Trained by Graham Motion for Newcal Stable, Sweet Lies will be making her third career start. She split the field last time out going 1 1/16 miles on the inner-turf at Aqueduct showing improvement since finishing 6th in a 6 furlong sprint at Belmont in October.
Motion is 0 for 2 with starters so far but there are several angles, including a 25% win rate with horses running 1st time Lasix, that make a trip to the winner’s circle with Sweet Lies more likely than not in here.
Post time for the Race of the Day is scheduled for 4:20 PM ET and will go as the final race of the day on the 8 race card at Aqueduct.
