Woodbine Racetrack has unveiled its 2024 Thoroughbred Stakes Schedule. Here are the key highlights:
- King’s Plate: The iconic King’s Plate, the oldest horse race in North America, will take place on Saturday, August 17. This event marks the 165th running of the King’s Plate and serves as the launch of the 2024 Canadian Triple Crown.
- Triple Crown Races:
- Prince of Wales Stakes: Scheduled for Tuesday, September 10, this race, with a purse of $400,000, will be held at Fort Erie Race Track.
- Breeders’ Stakes: The final leg of the Triple Crown, the Breeders’ Stakes, will conclude on Sunday, September 29 at Woodbine.
- Woodbine Mile: On Saturday, September 14, Woodbine hosts its prestigious $1 million classics, including the Woodbine Mile. This Grade 1 turf event is part of the Breeders’ Cup Challenge Series.
- Other Notable Races:
- E.P. Taylor Stakes: Moved up three weeks from 2023, this Grade 1 turf race will be held alongside the Woodbine Mile.
- Canada Day Racing Festival: On Saturday, June 29, this festival features five graded stakes races, including the Highlander Stakes, Nassau Stakes, Dominion Day Stakes, Selene Stakes, and Marine Stakes.
- Woodbine Oaks: The first leg of the Canadian Triple Tiara, the $500,000 Woodbine Oaks Presented by Budweiser, is scheduled for Saturday, July 20.
- 2024 Season Dates: The Thoroughbred season at Woodbine Racetrack begins on Saturday, April 27 and runs through Sunday, December 15, with a total of 129 race dates.
