Notable quotes on Pegasus 2019 contenders from the horsemen’s mouth

Todd Pletcher on Audible

“Audible’s training really well”
“All indications are he’s in good form and coming up to the race very well.”
“I think a mile and an eighth is ideal for him…He likes to settle early”

Dallas Stewart on Seeking the Soul

The Official Field for the Pegasus World Cup

PP Horse Trainer Odds
1 Bravazo D. Wayne Lukas 12-1
Won the G2 Risen Star last year giving him his third career win for Lukas who campaigns them hard. Since then, he’s raced through the entire G1 Triple Crown series and five more G1s since. By far, the most seasoned of last year’s crop of 3YO runners, with a good chance.
2 Something Awesome J. Corrales 20-1
8YO gelding finished 8th last time out at Pimlico and went on shelf since May. Before that he went 3-for-3 for Stronach. It wouldn’t be the Pegasus without a Stronach runner in the field. But there must be something better in his barn than this guy, right?
3 City of Light Michael McCarthy 5-2
Winner of the ’18 BC Dirt Mile in last, he’s taken turns with Accelerate in the winner’s circle on a couple of occasions.
4 Seeking the Soul Dallas Stewart 12-1
Managed only 1 win since going back in to training off a six month break after finishing 5th in this last year.
5 Accelerate John Sadler 9-5
Winner of 6 of his last 7 including the ’18 BC Classic, he’s the prime candidate for HOY honors.
6 Tom’s d’Etat Al Stall, Jr. 20-1
Lightly raced six-year-old will be making only the sixth start of his career for GMB Racing. BTW, GMB is Gayle M. Benson who also owns the New Orleans Saints football team. Horse has won his last two going back to a win at Saratoga in July ’17. He returned to the track in victory at Fair Grounds this past Christmas. That’s pretty impressive but second off a layoff isn’t usually an angle to stake a bet on. Would be a surprise.
7 True Timber Kiaran McLaughlin 30-1
Won two in a row sprinting in allowance company at Belmont but two-turn races have been his downfall. Can’t see how he can win this one against possible HOY.
8 Gunnevera A Sano 8-1
2nd to Accelerate LTO in the BC Classic he’ll enjoy the cutback. Was 3rd behind Gun Runner and West Coast in this one last year.
9 Kukulkan F. Guiterrez 30-1
Won the Caribbean Classic a month ago at Gulfstream as his first and only start in the States. BUT, he’s undefeated in 14 career starts – the first 13 in Mexico. Watch the video of his win in the G1 Mexican Derby
10 Audible Todd Pletcher 10-1
Won 4 straight before a 3rd place finish in the ’18 Derby. Returned a winner going 7/8s in November and was 2nd last time out at GP in preparation for this. It’s Pletcher, he likes it here, and he’s back at the Florida Derby distance he likes.
11 Imperative Quartarolo 30-1
Nine year old is reaching the end of his career with earnings nearing $3 million for six lifetime victories, one of which came here in Jan ’17. But he could see them all in front of him as they crossed the wire in his latest graded stakes tries late last year when he was last in the G1 Woodward and G1 Shadwell Turf Mile. “Would be a shocker” is an understatement.
12 Patternrecognition Chad Brown 10-1
Won last three for Brown who spots them well and has this guy moving up the ladder with back-to-back graded wins in last two. Was 2nd in his only two-turn race way back in ’17. However, he’s getting better with age.

Kukulkan
