The Field for the Louisiana Futurity (Colts and Geldings Division)
Here’s the field of 14 2 year-old colts and geldings from the rail out:
- Armanno – 15 to 1. Won maiden opener at Delta in October going 5F vs. state breds for $10K claimer. Draws the rail for second lifetime start under top jock. Trainer has a win and a third in 4 starts at the meet. Hard to repeat off maiden win but Bridgmohan takes the call riding 31% winners so far.
- Charlie Ballado – 15 to 1. Broke maiden at 4 to 1 going 5 1/2 at LaD in September for only score in 7 starts. Has been double-digits in 3 subsequent starts at Delta going longer. Cuts back today for trainer sending out first runner at the meet.
- Tooth – 12 to 1. Took maiden at first asking in a MSW$38K at Delta going 5/8’s in October. Went long next time out in Legacy stakes and finished 7th. Cuts back for 13% trainer Calhoun who adds blinkers.
- Just Due – 6 to 1. Broke maiden first time out at Churchill going 5f in a $50K maiden claimer in June and has been busy every since. Won a NW2L allowance here in November by 3 and was up the track in La Juvenile Stakes here a few weeks ago. Has the win over the track for high percentage trainer who isn’t known for stakes success.
- Run Away Ralph – 12 to 1. Another who has already run twice at the meet in troubled trips and beaten both times by runner to his inside. Has the maiden win at Evangeline first time out in the slop going 5 1/2 in August. Albarado sticks with him and NOTE the blinkers come off for the first time.
- Grand Argument – 30 to 1. Will be making the first start of his career for a trainer who is 0 for 5 at the meet. Consistent work pattern in preparation but nothing that stands out. Dam has 3 winners from 4 starters.
- IL Est Vite – 12 to 1. Broke maiden in August going 1 mile in the slop at Evangeline as the favorite. Last three starts were double-digit dud efforts at Delta. Trainer also sends out the #1 in here.
- Street Honor – 12 to 1. Bumped hard, pinched at break in last start here in the Juvenile. Two back, was 4th in that 6 horse field behind Just Due. Only win was maiden score in July at Evangeline going 5F.
- Tigerstorm – 8 to 1. Won first time out at Louisiana Downs in a 5f MSW for $24k against state breds at 2 to 1. Came back as 3 to 2 favorite in 6f stakes for $50k and finished 8 lengths behind the winner. Showed speed in both starts and is 1st time blinkers today for 26% trainer Hodges. Rain in the forecast and he’ll be the one to catch.
- First After Break – 20 to 1. Has a race over the track when 8th in only career start three weeks ago. Seems like a tough place to be second time out for low percentage connections.
- Pops Legacy – 20 to 1. Another who’s a maiden trying stakes runners for the first time. Out of the money in three career starts. Added Lasix last time out in a 5f open company at Delta.
- Run Bayou – 12 to 1. Gets blinkers on for 1st time off a good second place effort going 6 1/2 vs. state bred MSW for $38K at Delta. Trainer sent out two runners and grabbed a win. NOTE only muddy effort was a 7th place finish 1st time out at Evangeline at 25 to 1.
- Set Hut – 4 to 1. Broke maiden here a month ago going 1 mile in a state bred MSW for $41k as the heavy favorite. Before that was second by a length in a 7 1/2 furlong at Delta. Runner up in last came back to take a 1 mile MSW turf event as the favorite here the day after Christmas.
- Jack Snipe’s – 3 to 1. With two career wins and consistently high speed figures in 5 starts, opens as the morning line favorite and draws widest of all for low percentage connections. Was third here last time out in the Juvenile racing from his widest post to date. Underlay for sure.
