Danzing Candy earns his first graded stakes win in the G2 San Felipe at Santa Anita under Mike Smith.

Danzing Candy broke alertly from the inside, made the lead going into the first turn and was never headed as he scored an easy victory. The win was the first ever in the San Felipe for Hall of Fame jockey Mike Smith.

Danzing Candy Earns 50 Points towards Derby

Danzing Candy, a 3YO son of Twirling Candy, was bred in Kentucky by Halo Farms Bashor or Bashor. The victory gives him three easy wins in a row for trainer Clifford Sise and jockey Mike Smith, and 50 points towards a start in Louisville as they set their sites on the Kentucky Derby in May.

The final time was 1:43.04 for the 1 1/16 mile distance. The winner paid $13.00 to win, $5.20 to place, and $3.40 to show. Fractional times for the San Felipe were :224   :46   1:11   1:361   1:43.

In a post race interview Sise said he’ll be pointed to the Santa Anita Derby for his next start.

Mor Spirit closed late for second and Exaggerator finished third.
