Ladies’ Night in Louisville: 2026 Kentucky Oaks Moves to Primetime

Churchill Downs Home of the Kentucky Derby

Churchill Downs and its broadcast partner NBC Sports have announced a historic shift for the 152nd Longines Kentucky Oaks, moving the race to a primetime slot airing between 8 and 9 p.m. ET on Friday, May 1, 2026, on NBC and Peacock, as first reported by DRF.com. This change positions the Kentucky Oaks, America’s premier race for 3-year-old fillies, to captivate a broader audience under the evening lights of the iconic Twin Spires in Louisville, Kentucky.

A New Spotlight for the Oaks

According to DRF.com, the 2026 Kentucky Oaks will see its first post at 12:30 p.m. ET, with the day’s events culminating in the main race during the primetime window. Historically run in the afternoon with coverage starting as early as 1 p.m., the Oaks will now offer a twilight spectacle, amplifying its $1.5 million purse and the tradition of the “Lilies for the Fillies” garland. Churchill Downs Incorporated (CDI) CEO Bill Carstanjen emphasized the move’s significance, stating, “This decision is rooted in our commitment to growing the sport, reaching new audiences, and creating unforgettable experiences for our fans.”

The primetime slot is designed to elevate the Oaks’ visibility, showcasing its unique blend of competition, fashion, and philanthropy. NBC Sports President of Acquisitions & Partnerships Jon Miller noted, “With the Oaks on Friday night leading into the Kentucky Derby on the first Saturday in May, we can’t wait to get back to Churchill Downs for another historic weekend of racing.”
