Cupid Gives Baffert Rebel No. 6

Cupid and jockey Martin Garcia used an inside post to take the lead going into the first turn and controlled the pace to give Bob Baffert another victory in the G2 Rebel at Oaklawn.

Cupid, a 3YO son of Tapit, entered the Rebel with only a maiden win in his previous start at Santa Anita, but in typical Baffert fashion he was primed to go the 1 1/16 mile distance regardless, and gave Baffert his sixth win in seven running’s of the Rebel making Cupid his newest Kentucky Derby hopeful.

The winning time for the Rebel was 1:43.84 for the 1 1/16 mile distance.

Cupid Holds Off Whitmore

Rounding out the top four finishers was Whitmore who swung wide turning for home and looked to be able to go by the winner at the 1/4 pole but flattened out to finish second. Creator was third and Cherry Wine completed the Superfecta.

Suddenbreakingnews who came in to the Rebel as the favorite off his come from behind win in the Southwest Stakes was last turning for home and could not reach the top finishing fifth.
