Condo King returns to sprinting in Winkfield Stakes

Condo King returns to sprinting after a dismal 6th place finish at 1 mile, 70 yards in the G3 Jerome earlier this year.

He was three wide and pressing the pace in the Jerome and was done by the time they hit the 3/4 pole and ended up getting beat 20 plus lengths but the race should set him up nicely for a return to a more favorable distance despite being off two months. He’ll return for trainer Rudy Rodriguez who is batting .30 winners at the meet and gets leading rider Irad Ortiz, Jr. who together are rewarding backers with a +$2.00 ROI.

Condo King vs. King Kranz

King Kranz is the morning line favorite off a maiden victory against winners sprinting in the Lost In The Fog over the inner. But it should be noted that he was previously beaten by Condo King and followed up his only win with a last place finish in the G3 Withers, a race in which both Sunny Ridge and Adventist returned to run 3rd and 4th respectively in the G3 Gotham won by Shagaf.

King Kranz is the speed of the race but should have plenty of company from Sudden Surprise, one of two New York bred runners entered for Todd Pletcher. Sudden Surprise, who runs in the colors of Repole Stable, is a five-time winner with a bankroll of a little more than $400,000 and will face open company for the first time. The other Pletcher runner is Awesome Gent who’s coming into this race off two impressive sprint victories over the Aqueduct inner and might be better than his stablemate.
