Belmont Park: Far From Over leads short field in Seattle Slew
- Updated: September 9, 2017

Seattle Slew Stakes at 1 1/8 miles goes as the feature race at Belmont Park for Saturday, September 9, 2017
Six will go post-ward led by odds-on-favorite Far From Over. He returns for only his third start of the 2017 season for trainer Todd Pletcher after a second place finish last time out at Saratoga on July 27.
Javier Castellano will be back aboard the lightly raced 5 year-old son of the 2010 Breeders’ Cup Classic winner Blame and will be making only his 7th lifetime start.
Far From Over opened 2017 at Monmouth in the G3 Salvatore Mile after a 10 month layoff while finishing 7th in the nine horse field after steadying at the start.
In his only start at Belmont he was a winner at 1 1/16 miles on June 24, 2016.
Prior to that he won his maiden voyage in ’14 and the G3 Withers in ’15 which signals susceptibility. But as his name sake implies his career may be “Far From Over” despite the successive breaks in trips to the races.
The rest of the field includes the likely pacesetter Conquest Windycity who weakened to finish third last time out at Saratoga in the Alydar after setting fast early fractions. He’ll be making his first start at Belmont Park and is sitting on a best of 69 bullet work going 4f in :47.4 at Saratoga on August 21.
