Kentucky Derby: Pick it like it’s any other race

It’s the morning of the 2016 Kentucky Derby and all eyes are on the two leading contenders Nyquist, winner of the Florida Derby, and Exaggerator who’s most recent win in the Santa Anita Derby has him as the possible post time favorite and he now leads our “Who will win the Kentucky Derby?” poll.

But before you plop down your money on any of the horses in this year’s Derby field there’s a few things you should remember starting with the number one mistake that most people make when making their Kentucky Derby picks.

First and foremost IT’S JUST ANOTHER HORSE RACE!

Don’t get caught up in the hoopla of it being the Kentucky Derby because you’ll find yourself following the crowd to the water fountain after swallowing the chalk. In laymen’s terms that means that you’ve bet on the favorite and lost your money and now you need a big drink of water to get it down.

The second thing you should remember is to find the “horse for the course” which in laymen’s terms means a horse that has at least 1 win over the track. Now in a race like this it doesn’t necessarily mean that a horse who hasn’t won at Churchill won’t have a shot because the Derby is the big leagues so you’d expect that any of the 3 YO’s who have made it in to the race should be able to run and win over the track.

With that have a look at Wiz Capper’s derby picks and analysis. And keep in mind that in horse racing the favorite only wins approximately 33% of the time — which means that 67% of the time you should be looking elsewhere for the eventual winner.
