Does the Belmont Stakes Weather Forecast Change Things?
If you’ve been following Justify’s ascent into favoritism for the third leg of the Triple Crown, you would know that he’s won three of his five races on an offtrack including the Kentucky Derby and Preakness.
And, if you’ve been following along, the weather forecast for the 150th running of the Belmont Stakes in Elmont, New York was as much as a 70% chance of rain earlier in the week.
But, according to AccuWeather Meteorologist Kyle Elliott, fans going to the Belmont Stakes can expect dry weather and some sunshine on Saturday when the Belmont Stakes goes as race 11 on the 13 race card.
Watch replays of the races at Belmont for Friday, June 8, 2018 and you’ll see that speed on the dirt did not hold as several post time favorites went down in defeat to horses closing from mid-pack along the rail.
To be fair, Justify’s two best Beyer speed figures came over fast tracks at Santa Anita. So the notion that he favors an offtrack may be a misinterpretation of the facts that his three lowest Beyer’s came on an offtrack — which he won nevertheless.
And the fact may be that he’s simply superior to any of the other contenders he’ll face in a few hours.
We’ll find out soon.
Post time for the Belmont is set for 6:46 p.m. ET.
