Lake George Preview: Ancient Secret Returns on Saratoga Lawn
The $200,000 G2 Lake George for 3YO fillies going 1 1/16 miles on the turf is one of two stakes races on the opening day card at Saratoga.
The field of 12 will be led by Ancient Secret winner of the Wild Applause Stakes last time out at Belmont Park going 1 mile on the turf where she rallied to beat Thundering Sky. Undefeated in three career starts, she’ll open as the mild favorite at 3 1/2 to 1 over 11 rivals that include the aforementioned Thundering Sky who is listed at 8 to 1.
New York bred Ancient Secret beat state bred’s in her first two outings for trainer Chad Brown before closing 4 wide to win the $100K open company Wild Applause. She’ll go two turns for the first time today and she’s sitting on a 4F bullet move over the Belmont turf a week ago.

Lake George Led by Ancient Secret
The field for the Lake George by post position with jockey and morning line odds:
Thundering Sky (Saez, 8-1), Elysea’s World (Castellano, 5-1), Diamond Fields (Alvarado, 6-1), Enjoy Yourself (Santana, 20-1), Ancient Secret (Ortiz Jr, 7-2), Sky My Sky (Leparoux, 15-1), Flora Dora (Esquivele, 30-1), Baciami Piccola (Rosario, 15-1), Outsider Art (Franco, 15-1), Try Your Luck (Velazquez, 9-2), Tin Type Gal (Ortiz, 8-1), Gone Away (Geroux, 15-1)
Things to Consider
Tin Type Gal and Baciami Piccola, 5th and 8th respectively in the Wild Applause, are the only two runners in the field with a graded stakes win but it’s tough to see how they will turn it around against Ancient Secret. But to their credit Tin Type Gal, a Kentucky bred daughter of Tapit trained by Graham Motion, broke her maid first time on the turf at this distance last summer at Saratoga before returning to win the G3 Ms. Grillo at Belmont a month later. This will be the second start in 2016 and deserves consideration for her win at Saratoga. Baciami Piccola won the G3 Florida Oaks at Tampa Bay in her first start in the U.S. and will get Lasix for the first time in her career. Prior to the Wild Applause she was beaten 11 lengths in the G3 Appalachian behind early Breeders’ Cup Filly Turf favorite Catch A Glimpse.
