In the DRF feature Race of the Day at Penn National, a field of nine 3-year-old maiden fillies will go to post in the 6 furlong sprint for a purse of $18,000. Get free pps.
Penn National – Race 6
Here’s the field from the rail out with morning line odds, jockey, trainer, and comments.
- Asgata (6-1), R Chiappe, Paulina Sinnefia – Off for 90 days, she returns with plenty of angles to get her home first. Draws the rail, gets high percentage jockey, and a steady work pattern since her last start. She’ll need to get out fast and protect the rail from the horse to her immediate outside.
- Dweller (4-1), A Rodriguez, Brandon Kulp – Nice second place try in her only career start here a month ago. Jockey/Trainer combo hits at a high percentage and she adds Lasix after hitting the gate at the start last time out and failing to hold the lead in deep stretch. Slight jump in claiming price from last start.
- Bella Prima (12-1), V Diaz, Franklin Rodriguez – Took steep drop to low-level claiming price last time out at Turfway on the all-weather. Wore blinkers for the first time but still drifted in and was DQ’d from 3rd to 6th. Gets Lasix back, a new trainer, new jockey and a big jump up in class.
- Bet the Queen (9-2), I Beato, Naoise Agnew – Faces two others from her last and only start, she led at the first call going 5 1/2 and fought on to finish third. Adds ground for her second start and will be part of a contentious pace.
- Eclipticals Shorty (15-1), M Inirio, Flint Stites – One of two taking her maiden voyage, unless she’s given some special abilities not yet apparent, she’s going to need this one.
- Cosmological (10-1), E Flores, George Albright – Same thing goes for this miss making her first career start. Nothing really evident in the data provided in the pps.
- Nyx and Chaos (3-1), W Otero, Bruce Kravets – She’s opening as the favorite making her first start for a tag after a very good 2nd place effort in her last start here at 19-1. On paper, she looks like many others in here.
- She’s a Gunfighter (5-1), J Vargas, George Albright – The second runner from this barn, she stepped up to this level and set the pace to finish second. Two back, she was a distant 6th behind Dweller.
- Hope Ever Lasting (8-1), D Cora, Bernard Houghton – Another exiting the race that will be key to the outcome of this one. Adds Lasix but otherwise all things the same for this miss who will benefit from the experience in her second start.
Post time for DRF’s Race of the Day is scheduled for 8:16 PM ET and will go as race 6 on the 9 race card for Tuesday, January 18, 2022 at Penn National.
