Backsideofthemoon Seeks Repeat in Queens County

The last time Backsideofthemoon made his way into the starting gate for the 2020 running of the $125,000 Queens County Stakes, today’s Race of the Day at Aqueduct, he took command at the break and never looked back, stopping the clock at 1:52.4 for the 1 1/8 miles while earning a 107 BRIS speed figure for his effort.

When the now 9-year-old son of Malibu Moon is sent to the track for the 2021 edition of the Queens County he’ll be looking to add a 9th and final victory to his win column in races on the NYRA circuit, and his first since last December.

It’s a tall order for an old-timer who last won this race with the fluid reducing drug Lasix, and if necessary for him to win, won’t have the benefit of it this time.

Journeyman jockey Jose Lezcano will be back aboard to try and make it two in a row in the Queens County.

Equipment Change Could Help Bourbonic

Bourbonic rocked the Triple Crown trail last April when he won the G2 Wood Memorial at 72-1 to gain entry to Kentucky Derby 147, but he failed to fire from post position 19 when finishing 16 lengths behind the top three in 13th place.

Since the Derby he’s faced 3-year-old graded company in the Belmont, West Virginia Derby, and Pennsylvania Derby without success.

He’ll make his second start since a 4th place finish last time out in the Discovery Stakes. And his first without blinkers since a trailing a field of 11 on the inner turf here over a year ago.

Post time for the Queens County is scheduled for 3:37 PM ET.
