PP | HORSE | TRAINER | Projected ODDS | Fantasy Finish |
---|---|---|---|---|
1 | Concert Tour | Baffert | 3-1 | 2nd |
Baffert calls on HOF jockey Mike Smith to replace Rosario after a ‘head-scratching’ loss as the favorite in the Arkansas Derby. Winner of his first three career starts, the son of Derby winner Street Sense will be a challenge for stablemate in what will likely be a two horse race. | ||||
2 | Crowded Trade | Brown | 8-1 | 6th |
Despite having enough points to start in the Derby he was kept in New York to wait for the shorted distance of the Preakness. And here he is with a lone maiden win, a 2nd in the Gotham, and a 3rd in the Wood behind the top two who finished 13th and 18th in the Derby. | ||||
3 | France Go de Ina | Mori | 20-1 | 9th |
Rosario was aboard for his last start in the UAE Derby and will ride again for two-time winner in Japan. Won’t have to face Godolphin’s UAE Derby winner Rebel’s Romance who is being pointed to the Belmont. But he will have to face America’s Derby winner and proven player on American soil. | ||||
4 | Keepmeinmind | Diodoro | 20-1 | 8th |
Comes from far, far back and blinkers off in the Derby didn’t help his cause finishing a distant 7th, while gaining. Tough to see how he makes up ground on the pacesetters in what appears will be a match race between Baffert’s two stablemates. | ||||
5 | Medina Spirit | Baffert | 1-1 | 1st |
Never worse than 2nd in six starts, he was twice beaten by Baffert trained Life Is Good who had all the makings of the Derby winner until he was sidelined by injury. Was sent to the front in the Derby and expect that to be the way they run him again. | ||||
6 | Midnight Bourbon | Asmussen | 8-1 | 3rd |
Confirmed as a starter on Thursday. Toss out his Derby loss and expect him to be in contention early with new rider Ortiz, Jr., and if he runs the race that Mandaloun did in the Derby, he should be right there in the end in this one. | ||||
7 | Ram | Lukas | 15-1 | 4th |
In typical Lukas fashion he’s been taken along slowly, getting his first win in his 8th start against MC$50K on a wet track in Hot Springs. Won his last start on the Derby undercard going 1 mile in a N1XAlw — but loses Ortiz to Asmussen’s horse. Never count out the ‘Coach’ and he is the son of TC winner American Pharoah. Would be shocking but his speed figs improved dramatically in his last two wins. | ||||
8 | Rombauer | McCarthy | 15-1 | 7th |
A winner on turf and all-weather but none on dirt. His 3rd place Blue Grass effort was decent and it was the closest he’s raced to the pace in six starts. But, trainer McCarthy said he was too close to it and plans to take back again. Seems he’s a damned if you do, damned if you don’t kinda horse. | ||||
9 | Unbridled Honor | Pletcher | 15-1 | 5th |
Runner up in the Lexington was making up a lot of ground on the rail but moved outside turning for home. Always a slow starter, he’ll have plenty to do to catch the pace. |
