Post positions and morning-line odds for the $3 million G1 race at Gulfstream Park.
On Saturday, January 24, Gulfstream Park hosts the 10th anniversary of the $3 million Pegasus World Cup Invitational (G1). Billed as a “Decade of Champions” all eyes will be on the rail as the undefeated Disco Time (8-5), who enters with a perfect 5-0 record, attempts to extend his win streak to six from the favorable post position 1. But to reach the winner’s circle, he’ll have to hold off the defending champ from Pegasus World Cup 2025, White Abarrio (4-1), who is looking to become the first-ever repeat winner in the race’s history despite a challenging draw at Post 11.

On the Favorite: Trainer Brad Cox is high on Disco Time, noting his 112 Equibase Speed Figure from the Dwyer Stakes. “This is the toughest field he’s faced, but he’s never disappointed us,” Cox told reporters.
The Defending Champ: Saffie Joseph Jr. acknowledged the layoff for White Abarrio (last seen in the Jockey Club Gold Cup in August) but remains confident. “Irad is the best at working out bad posts,” Joseph said regarding the wide #11 draw.
The Value Play: Keep an eye on Tappan Street (6-1). Also trained by Brad Cox, he’s a “horse for the course” who won the Florida Derby on this very track.
Wiz Capper’s Analysis
Disco Time – The Speed
Post 1 could be a treasure, or a trap, for the recently turned 4-year-old and undefeated Disco Tempo. He’ll have a new rider, will have to break perfectly, and can expect to have ‘pressing’ concerns from the speedy Full Serrano who sports four G1 efforts and was the winner of the 2024 Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile. And, if that’s not enough reason to tread cautiously when betting, his dame, Disco Chick, was twice a winner at 6 furlongs in 14 career starts and never raced longer than 7 furlongs. If Disco Time isn’t able to beat his competitors to lead going into the first turn, the Juddmonte son of Not This Time could find himself racing through a more challenging trip.
White Abarrio – The Experience
This race pace setup screams a “closer’s race.” And expect Ortiz to have White Abarrio tucked in behind the lead flight. He has more Grade 1 experience than the rest of the field combined. And he loves the Gulfstream dirt.
Tappan Street – The Winner
Disco Time may be the future. White Abarrio is the proven force at Gulfstream. Tappan Street will get his regular rider back after his last out win in a ‘workout’. And there will be no Sovereignty on Saturday.
