Free Cigar Mile Past Performances (2018)

Free DRF Past Performances for the Race of the Day

Free past performances for Saturday’s Cigar Mile headliner at Aqueduct.

Copper Town, trained by Todd Pletcher for Winstar Farm LLC and China Horse Club, will be making his second start of the year for his connections in the G1 $750,000 Cigar Mile.

Copper Town has won his last three races going back to September 17, 2017 when he broke his maiden at Belmont going the one mile distance. He followed up with a win in a NW1X Allowance for $77,000 in October of last year before being shelved until his return with a winning performance at Keeneland two months ago.

Despite the fact that he’ll be making his second start of a long layoff, he appears to be the main challenger to Mendelssohn who will open as a slight favorite at 2-1 for trainer Aidan O’Brien.

O’Brien has campaigned Mendelssohn four times in the U.S. since his dismal performance this past Summer in the Kentucky Derby. He’ll cut back in distance for the Cigar after three consecutive tries going 1 1/4 miles. In his most recent start he set the early pace in the G1 Breeders’ Cup Classic before tiring to finish fifth, beaten four lengths by the winner Accelerate.

Mendelssohn’s lone 1 mile effort was a third place finish in the G3 Dwyer at Belmont. Regular jockey Ryan Moore has the mount and will break from post position 1.
