Thanksgiving Handicap at Fair Grounds: Yockey’s Warrior cuts back in return

Free past performances for the feature race of the day

‘Tis the Fair Grounds season at last!

It’s Thanksgiving Day in New Orleans. A day that has long marked the return of thoroughbred horse racing in the Crescent City. And despite the fact that they’ve already run a full card of 10 races which highlighted Louisiana bred runners on opening day last Saturday, the Thanksgiving Handicap will forever be known as the race that kicks off racing each year in the Big Easy.

Race #9

Last year’s winner Yockey’s Warrior returns to defend his title for trainer Al Stall who has already notched 4 wins from 7 starters at the meet — and they’ve only raced one day so far.

Yockey’s Warrior comes in off a win going 6 1/2 at Keeneland. An angle that was used successfully last year to win this one.

Look for Mesoma with Francisco Torres to set the early fractions for trainer Wes Hawley. He won his last race at Churchill in September and is sitting on a 4f bullet workout here a week ago. He’s listed at 6 to 1 and may have the best chance of springing the upset.
