Fair Grounds Tenacious Stakes Field

A mediocre field of 10 is expected to go to post for the $75,000 Tenacious Stakes at Fair Grounds on the Saturday before Christmas 2019 in New Orleans.

Listed as the morning line favorite at 3-1 is Pioneer Spirit – a last out winner in a $150K OC at Churchill for trainer Brad Cox. In what seems to have been a break in the weight gamble, the six year old son of Malibu Moon was claimed for the high dollar tag by a trio of new owners including Heads Up Racing and others, and will make his first start for new connections under the tutelage of trainer Robertino Diodoro.

Diodoro is hitting at a 25% clip for the year but this will be his first out runner at Fair Grounds for the current meet which started on Thanksgiving Day.

The riding assignment goes to David Cohen who’ll be making his first trip aboard the 10 time winner who has purse earnings exceeding $600,000.

Tenacious Stakes 2019 projected winner

1. Lone Sailor Touted with a chance in the slop by HorseRacingNation.com writer Reinier Macatangay, he is still eligible for NW3 lifetime and is 0 for 5 in Fair Grounds trips. Winner of $1.2 million and the G3 Oklahoma Derby in 2018, he’s on paper performances in mostly graded company is reason enough to give him a shot. They dropped him down in class for his last two starts, without a trip to the winner’s circle so it’s hard to see him taking this one on the drop.

2. Blended Citizen –  Cox sends this one out from a winning performance after taking over the training from O’Neill two back. Two other runners from that last out Churchill race return to take a shot here. And that makes this guy the likely winner.
