Preview of the 2016 Kentucky Oaks Contenders Past Performances

Brisnet has just released the 2016 Kentucky Oaks Contenders Past Performances.

And until now I haven’t talked much about the Oaks so let’s take a look at the potential field of contenders and what stands out about their prep races leading up to Kentucky Derby weekend.

Click here to get your copy of the early PP’s for the Oaks.

As with the Derby, the Oaks contenders qualify for a spot in the starting gate through a points system on the Road to the Kentucky Oaks with the top 14 runners by points earned getting a chance to make racing history by winning the precursor on the Friday before the Derby.

Sitting atop the Kentucky Oaks leaderboard is Songbird with 190 total points. Songbird, winner of the 2015 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies at Keeneland, will miss the Kentucky Oaks after developing a fever following the Santa Anita Oaks. And while it’s disappointing that she won’t run in the Kentucky Oaks it’s always better for bettors when the race is “more interesting” from a wagering standpoint.

With that, is Terra Promessa the one to beat? She’s won her last 4 beginning with her maiden score at 1 1/6 miles at Churchill. And now sits atop the leaderboard with 150 points having one the G3 Honeybee and the G3 Fantasy at Oaklawn in her last two outings.

There are 19 runners that make up the list of 2016 Kentucky Oaks contenders past performances including Lewis Bay, second in points standings and winner of the G2 Demoiselle and the G2 Gazelle at Aqueduct. And Land Over Sea winner of the G2 Fair Grounds Oaks in March.

So who’s it gonna be? We’ll find out soon. Meanwhile keep checking back for updates, analysis and selections for the 2016 Kentucky Oaks as we draw closer to the race.
