There’s a high probability that the $75,000 Woodchopper Stakes for three-year-old males will be rained off the turf and moved to the main track on Saturday at Fair Grounds.
If Fair Grounds management determines it wouldn’t be safe (and to prevent damage to the turf course so early in the meet) to run the race over the turf course, it will be run on the main track at One Mile and 70 Yards.
Changes in the weather is an added variable that must be taken into account when handicappers sit down to read the form. So, always check the weather for the track or tracks you plan to play.
The lukewarm favorite at 4-1 is Dubby Debbie who will be getting a new rider after beating older company going 1 1/8 miles over a yielding turf course at Churchill in his last start. Trained by Michelle Lovell, who is 0 for 10 to start the meet, Dubby Debbie is 0 for 4 at the Fair Grounds. If it stays on the turf at 1 mile, he owns a win at the distance. But that, too, was at Churchill.
