Hollywood Derby offers Mo Town chance to shine on turf

Prior to his career best 102 Beyer going 1 1/16 miles for the first time on the inner turf at Belmont in his last start, Mo Town showed early on that he might like to run on grass.

In his second start as a maiden, he took a 1 mile MSW by 7 lengths in the mud, in route to winning the 1 1/8 miles G2 Remsen in his next start. And stamping his name in the Triple Crown Trail before being sidelined with an injury afterwards.

But he’s been taken along slowly by trainer Anthony Dutrow, and will enter the starting gate for the G1 $300,000 Hollywood Derby as the second choice at 3 to 1 on Saturday.

Of the nine horses entered, six exit the G2 Twilight Derby, including Sharp Samurai who earned a career best 98 Beyer and is on a four race win streak. He’ll open favored 1/2 point over Mo Town.
