Breeders’ Cup Classic: Connections of Diversify look long term
- Updated: October 20, 2017

The connections of Diversify, winner of the Jockey Club Gold Cup in front-running fashion at Belmont earlier this month, will have a decision to make on Monday when pre-entries are due for the Breeders’ Cup Classic on Nov. 4 at Del Mar.
In the Gold Cup, Diversify, a four-year-old New York bred by Bellamy Road, controlled the pace in a race void of any other speed and prevailed over Keen Ice and Pavel, both of whom are considered contenders for the Classic.
The Gold Cup victory guaranteed Diversify a place in the gate for the Classic by way of the Win and You’re In challenge series. And come Monday, owner Ralph Evans and trainer Rick Violette will have a decision to make with their talented runner who’s on a three-race-win streak.
As a bettor, their decision to run or not will affect the pace of the Classic. But it won’t be an easy one to make for Evans and Violette who are being cautious as they look ahead to a campaign at 5 and 6 with their star gelding.
