Here’s a quick look at the 1 mile Champagne Stakes for two year olds at Belmont. The field of seven includes logical favorite Green Light Go, as well as Three Technique and Gozilla who both failed as favorites against Basin who has been sidelined with an injury.

PP Horse Trainer Odds
1 Alpha Sixty Six Pletcher 5-1
Won his maiden opener last month at Belmont as the favorite and working well for a repeat for top connections. Tough to win right back but should not be overlooked.
2 Truculent Sisterson 30-1
Calument homebred is 0 for 2 in as many trips to the track. Came up a head short in a 1 mile Ellis turf try, so we know he can at least finish the 8 panels. Sitting on a ‘best of’ bullet move at Keeneland. Adds blinkers for connections looking for a free ride to the Juvenile.
3 Green Light Go Jerkins 8-5
Opens as early favorite to make it three in a row for Stronach Stables. Adds a furlong and a half to his previous long distance win in the G2 Saratoga Special last time out. Won his maiden outing sprinting at Belmont in a five horse field at almost 7-1. Trainer is 0 for 9 at the current meet and that alone is cause to pause before pouncing on him at the window.
4 Three Technique Englehart 7-2
Lost his opener at Belmont as the heavy favorite vs. three others in the summer. Returned at Saratoga a month later to repeat in the runner up spot at odds-on. Finally got the win LTO when adding distance and expect he’ll handle the added furlong in here. Gets new rider in Ortiz Jr. as older brother lands on runners at Keeneland today. Both Ortiz brothers already have a potential winning mount in the Juvenile, so it will be interesting to see how this plays out if this guy takes home the trophy in here. Wiz Capper’s Pick
5 Gozilla Santana 6-1
Hard to see how he doesn’t contend for the lead as he’s been in front from the start in only two tries at the Spa. Was ‘Shoplifted’ for second in the Hopeful as the favorite and was no match for stablemate Basin who will miss the Juvenile and be sidelined for the remainder of the year due to an ankle injury. If he wins this, he would be Asmussen’s back up for the Juvenile.
6 Big City Bob Decarlo 20-1
Winner of his last two at Monmouth and the Sapling at this distance. But that’s where the comparisons to the others in here stops. Trainer has sent out six at the meet with zero trips to the winner’s circle. Pass.
7 Tiz the Law Franco 5-2
NY bred took his only start at Saratoga vs. statebreds but it wasn’t enough to make Alvarado’s decision to ride the favorite in here difficult. As the second choice at 5-2 have to believe he would be the favorite in here if not for Green Light Go. But again, there’s the 0 for 11 trainer stat that stands out. And if there’s a handicapping angle that’s ‘Tiz the Law’ to not ignore, it’s that a barns efforts aren’t working out as planned.
